Do ASHP's work in very cold weather?

Even at -5 degrees Celsius, there is still plenty of energy in the air for the heat pump to convert. Remember, there is still energy all the way down to -273.15 degrees Celsius (absolute zero). In fact, Samsungs high quality Air Source Heat Pumps retain a market leading 90% efficiency even at -10°C and has an operational range down to -25°C.

What are the environmental benefits of ASHP's?

Although heat pumps need electricity to run, they are classed as more efficient than standard forms of electrical heating - they need far less energy to deliver the same results. The heat they extract from the ground, air or water is classed as ‘renewable’ as it comes naturally from the atmosphere around us. Samsung Air Source Heat Pumps have a CoP (Coefficient of Performance) of 4:1. This means for every unit of energy consumed by the Air Source Heat Pump you would recieve 4 usable units of usable energy.

Are ASHP's safe?

Heat pumps are entirely safe and a tried and tested technology. There are no harmful gas emissions, no flammable oil, LPG or gas pipes, no unsightly fuel storage and no flues or chimneys with heat pump installations.

How much hot water is produced each day by an ASHP air source heat pump?

Hot water is stored and made available in a thermal store allowing for ample daily usage requirements. The systems provide large amounts of hot water quickly and at low cost. 

Is an air source heat pump suitable for my home?

Advancements in heat pump technology ensures that all properties can benefit from an ASHP in some way. There are, however, other factors to consider:

 1. You should take the time to insulate your home as efficiently as possible to save even more fuel cost. We will require an EPC assessment.
2. Is your home insulated? It is essential that your home is insulated and draught proofed well for the heating system to be effective.
3. What fuel system will you be replacing? The ASHP will pay for itself more quickly if it's replacing an electricity, LPG, oil or coal heating system than an up-to-date High Efficiency Mains Gas System but the gas will still have high emissions.  On retro-fit or upgrades, a heat pump can be effectively integrated with the existing heating system but some general upgrades may be required.
4. Is the system intended for a new development? Give us a bell and we can guide you through the technical aspects of a New Build Development.

Am I investing in my home - adding value?

Simply put: Yes.
Not only is a reduction of CO2 emissions of up to 60% expected, but The Energy Efficiency rating assessments of new builds using Air Source Heat Pumps rated as "A" which is the highest possible level for heating and hot water production. Of course an additional benefit is the added value to your property in the event of a transfer of ownership. An ASHP makes your property much cheaper to run and attractive to purchasers. 

What needs to happen to get started?

  • A property energy performance survey (if you do not have an EPC, we will assess your property and arrange it)

  • An assessment of required heat loads for each and every room in your house

  • An air source suitability assessment or MCS Survey

  • Full system consultation and design with you or your project manager 

  • Installation, commissioning and a practical handover

  • Information pack handover
